Raw Materials Intake, Reception, Storage & Conditioning : Wolstenholme International

Fairport NEU Solutions designed and built this automated conveying and weighing system for metallic pigments. One of the more testing tasks was to convey powders up to seven times heavier than those typically handled – and to achieve filter efficiencies higher than the accepted industry standards. The installation comprises five pneumatic conveying systems that feed brass and copper grain from a foundry through various stages of a particle size reduction, or classification process, involving ball mills. From the foundry, grain is typically the size of sand with a ‘heavy’ bulk density of some 6,500 kg/m3. The mills produce ‘light’ dust-like particles in the order of 20 to 30 microns with a bulk density of 200-300 kg/m3.
